York High School yearbook

This is half of the sophomore class of York High School in 1946. Mary Ann is seated in the second row and sixth from the left. Notice how all the girls are wearing skirts and many have "bobby sox" and penny loafers. The boys all have collared shirts. Styles were different then. One lady who saw the pictures also noted the pompadore hair styles.
This is half of the junior class of 1946. Carl is the fifth from the left on the back row. His hair style took hours (according to Mary Ann) to achieve just the right flip. She loved to tease him about that. I like the divide between him and the girls. Was that back row guys the gang of five or six that might have been involved in the Glenbard bleacher episode? Of course the guys on the front row have on white sox with their penny loafers, too..
These pictures were posted on the Ancestry website from the Y's Tales from 1946. There is a list of all the students on the picture online. Ancestry also has an index of the birth certificates for both. It is amazing what is flying around in cyber space.
